The Atlanta Legal Aid Society is dedicated to providing free civil legal assistance to individuals in need, ensuring they have access to justice, protection of their rights, and security in their safety and stability. Our mission is to help those who cannot afford an attorney by offering vital legal services across a broad spectrum of civil law.

We assist low-income people in navigating the often-complex court system during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives. Our experienced team of attorneys, paralegals, and advocates are committed to making a tangible difference in the community.

Our practice areas include, but are not limited to:

• Consumer Issues: Addressing predatory lending, loan fraud, and other consumer-related concerns.
• Family Law: Providing support for domestic violence cases, adoption, child support, and special education matters.
• Housing: Expert assistance with landlord/tenant disputes.
• Elder Law: Comprehensive services covering benefits, nursing home issues, and cases of abuse or neglect affecting seniors.
• Public Benefits: Guidance on Social Security, SSI, unemployment, and public housing.
• Estate Planning: Drafting wills and advance directives.
• Disability Rights: Advocating for disability rights and accommodation issues, including access to benefits.

With multiple offices across the Metro Atlanta area, including Decatur, and an accessible online intake application, we strive to make legal help readily available to those who qualify. Our work is supported by generous donors and dedicated volunteers, all united in the goal of promoting access to justice for everyone.
