About

The Georgia Department of Law, led by Attorney General Chris Carr, serves the citizens of Georgia by providing high-quality legal representation to the agencies, officers, and employees of state government. Its mission is to honorably and vigorously carry out the constitutional and statutory responsibilities of the Attorney General. The department is committed to excellence, setting a standard for quality management in state government, and fostering an environment of trust, support, and mutual respect among its diverse and highly motivated team.

The Attorney General's Office plays a crucial role in prosecuting violent crime across the state and addressing key issues that impact Georgians. Under Attorney General Carr's leadership, significant initiatives have been launched to tackle pressing challenges. These include the creation of the first-of-its-kind Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit in 2019, which has successfully rescued and assisted over 200 children and secured lengthy prison sentences for traffickers. Building on this success, the statewide Gang Prosecution Unit was established in 2022, achieving over 120 convictions. Furthermore, the Statewide Opioid Task Force has been recognized as a national model, securing over one billion dollars for treatment, prevention, and recovery services through national settlements.

The department also focuses on dismantling organized crime through its Organized Retail Crime Unit, launched in 2024, to investigate and prosecute large-scale theft rings. Citizens can also file consumer complaints through the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division. The office is located at 40 Capitol Square, SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30334, and operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Department of Law is dedicated to providing legal advice based on the law, without influence of favor or politics, ensuring justice and fairness in all proceedings.
