About

The Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF) is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to ensuring that no one has to face legal challenges alone when standing up for their rights. Our core mission is to create safe and stable homes and families by inspiring the fight for equal justice for low-income Atlantans.

AVLF offers a comprehensive suite of free legal services across two primary areas: Safe & Stable Homes and Safe & Stable Families. Under our Safe & Stable Homes initiatives, we provide crucial assistance for individuals grappling with landlord-tenant problems, including illegal evictions, poor living conditions, and unreturned security deposits. Programs like Eviction Defense, the Housing Court Assistance Center (HCAC), Standing With Our Neighbors (SWON)®, and the Saturday Lawyer Program (SLP) offer legal aid, advice, and representation to help tenants protect their homes and rights. We also connect clients with creditors’ rights attorneys through Dollars for Judgments and integrate legal support with healthcare via the Medical Legal Partnership Plus (MLP+).

For Safe & Stable Families, AVLF provides vital support to survivors of domestic violence and families navigating complex family law matters. Our services include free legal assistance to file Temporary Protective Orders (TPOs) through the Safe Families Office (SFO) and the Standing With Survivors (SwS) mobile advocacy initiative. The Family Law Program (FLP) offers representation in divorce proceedings, child custody, child support, spousal support, and legitimation for eligible individuals. Additionally, our Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) program trains volunteer attorneys to advocate for children's best interests in high-conflict custody cases in Fulton County.

With thousands of clients assisted, pro bono hours contributed, and TPOs granted annually, AVLF and its network of dedicated volunteers make a significant impact in the community, fighting for equal justice and helping individuals rebuild safer, more stable futures.
